Predation of Vespa tropica (Linn.) on Polistes (Gyrostoma) olivaceus (De Geer): A short behavioural study and photo-documentation from West Bengal, India

A single individual of Vespa tropica (Linnaeus, 1758) (Greater Banded Hornet) was found to raid the nest of Polistes (Gyrostoma) olivaceus De Geer, 1773 (Yellow Oriental Paper Wasp) near the rooftop garden at iForNature – Nature Club, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. This short communication discusses about the observed predatorial behaviour of Vespa over Polistes from India along with a note on the rectification of a misspelt Polistes species.
